1. (Random Variables: Joint Distributions). The following table gives the joint distribution h(r, y) of the random variables X and Y, representing the number washers and dryers, respectively, sold by an appliance store salesperson in a day: 1 2 y 0 1 0 1 2 0.24 0.09 0.05 0.11 0.21 0.08 0.03 0.06 0.13 . (1) Find the distributions of X and Y (here and below, all numerical answers are to be rounded to 5-digit floating-point numbers). (ii) Use (i) to find the means, variances and standard deviations of X and Y (please make sure to provide two standard tables Total h(z) zh(2) zh(2) for computing the required characteristics of X and Y). (iii) Find the covariance Cov(X,Y) and the correlation p(x,y) of X and Y. (iv) Suppose that the salesperson makes a commission of $20 per washer and $14 per dryer. Find the average daily commission. Your answers to the problems should therefore be presented in three tables the main table plus two standard tables for computing the numerical characteristics of X and Y.
