2. As part of an experiment of root metabolism, a plant physiologist grew birch tree seedlings in a greenhouse. She was interested in studying the effect of flooding on ATP content. She randomly allocated eight seedlings to two treatment groups (with four seedlings per group). The first group consisted of flooding seedlings with water for one day, while the other group served as a control with no flooding. She then harvested the seedlings and analyzed the roots for ATP content. The results are as follows: ATP content 1.45 1.19 1.05 1.07 1.70 2.04 1.49 1.91 Treatment Group Flooded Flooded Flooded Flooded Control Control Control Control a. What are the variables? What type are they (categorical/quantitative, response/explanatory)? b. Was there any randomization? Was there any random sampling? c. Is this an experiment or observational study? d. Can we make causal inferences? Can we make population inferences? e. Use Minitab to create a side-by-side boxplot of the data. For this small data set, you can enter into Minitab yourself. Be sure to put it in the correct format. In the future, I will start giving you a data file. Give some general comments about the two groups based on the boxplots.
