Researchers studied whether health information disseminated verbally only or verbally with a graph would affect patients' ratings about medication effectiveness (Tal & Wansink, 2014). The researchers predicted that presenting medication information with a graph would increase ratings of effectiveness. Half of the participants were randomly assigned to hear information about the medication verbally only; while the other half were presented with a graph while hearing the same information. Participants rated the effectiveness of the medication on a scale of 1 - 9, with 9 indicating a higher level of effectiveness.
