Question 1 (6 marks) a) A new type of particle called A, is discovered which is measured to have a lifetime of exactly 45 us before decaying to a different type of particle B. Calculate the particle's measured lifetime, if it were travelling at a speed relative to the observer of V = 0.85c at the time of measurement. b) If a particle A is produced at the Earth's surface and sets off on a straight line through the centre of the Earth at speed V = 0.85c relative to the observer, will it have decayed to particle B by the time it reaches the observer's measuring device located on the other side? You may assume the particle does not interact with the Earth's interior.
