Discussion Board # 2: The Sacred, Religion, Everyday Life
A. What is your concept of religion? What
do you consider sacred? How is religion and the sacred defined in
the PowerPoint? How is religion studied?
B. Religions often speak of the sacred or
treat people or places as sacred. In Hinduism, certain elements
(soil, fire, and the sun) are considered sacred. In Buddhism,
certain structures (temples) are considered sacred. Is there
anything objectively “sacred,” or is this just an imaginative human
projection?
C. Give two examples from everyday life
that "may" be representative of the sacred. In your opinion,
is sacredness intertwined with religion? Please
explain.
