A woman patient is 77 years old and has swelling on her neck for 10 years. Initially she was diagnosed with the goiter.

A woman patient is 77 years old and has swelling on her neck for
10 years. Initially she was diagnosed with the goiter.
Unfortunately, the patient did not accept the operation to remove
her enlarged thyroid gland that was offered to her. Now she
returned to the clinic because the swelling of her neck become
larger and she had rapid increase in shortness of breath,
difficulty in swallowing and speaking (‘lost voice’). The
diagnostic tests confirmed thyroid carcinoma, and the surgical
removal of the thyroid gland (thyroidectomy) was performed. The
patient recovered well.
