Mrs. White comes running into the emergency room carrying her 2-year-old son Mickey. Mrs. White explains to the nurse that she was busy making dinner and helping her other child with homework, when Mickey pulled one of the heating pots off of the stovetop. The pot contained boiling water for a pasta dish she was preparing. The scalding fluid poured onto Mickey's anterior left arm and anterior left leg. Mrs. White states that Mickey was crying initially, however as they were driving to the hospital he didn't seem to be in pain anymore. While assessing Mickey's injury, the nurse notes what appear to be dry pale areas on Mickey's anterior left arm and anterior left leg. (Learning Objectives 7, 8, 10) 1.
