You are the Coordinator of Release of Information in the Health Information Management at Big City Hospital. One of the Release of Information Coordinators in your department asked for your assistance in determining if the medical record of a patient could be released to the patient’s parent. Upon review of the department’s release of information policy and procedure you discovered that the policy and procedure were not in compliance with HIPAA Privacy Regulations. Review HIPAA Privacy Regulations regarding the release of patient information and then evaluate the attached Release of Information Policy/Procedure.
