Jaya is a 6-month-old infant, born at 32 weeks gestation to a first-time mother, Susan. She weighed 1.8kg at birth. She was brought to the emergency department following diarrhoea and vomiting for more than 24 hours and refusal of food and drinks for 8 hours. Jaya is diagnosed with moderate dehydration of 6%. Jaya was commenced on intravenous therapy (IVT). Susan is also worried that Jaya’s weight for age has remained in the third percentile since she was 2 months old and that she has not started crawling yet.
