Zoe, a 6-year-old girl, is admitted to the ward with her parents on account of a fracture of her left shoulder following a fall from a monkey bar at the playground. Zoe has lost a considerable amount of blood from her injury, but she is alert and oriented. She has been unsettled and crying uncontrollably.

2c). In addition to Zoe’s routine analgesia (paracetamol and ibuprofen), she was prescribed 0.1mg/kg of oxycodone (2ml=2mg) prn 3-4 hourly postoperatively to manage her pain. At 15:00 hours, Zoe became unsettled although her routine analgesia was given an hour ago.
