You are part of a research team gathering information about tail length in Long-tailed widowbirds (Euplectes progne). Long-tailed widowbirds are birds in which females show a strong preference for long tails in males, and as a result there is a great deal of variation in tail length in wild populations. You take a variety of measurements including that in the entire population of widowbirds, and find the average tail length is 35 centimeters. The total variance of tail length in the field is about 10 cm. Only some males in the population breed (some males don't breed at all). The average tail length of males that bred (had eggs in their nests) was 48.5 cm centimeters. The average diameter of males that didn't breed was 28 centimeters. When you come back the following year, you measure the tails of the males in the population and the average is 39.8 centimeters. What is the heritability of tail length in long-tailed widowbirds? O 0.36 0.14 O 0.25 O 0.46 D Question 17 4 pts You are interested in examining whether wing beat frequency (the frequency that an individual flaps its wings) in a species of butterfly is heritable. You measure wing beat frequency of 90 indivuals and determine that the variance within your sample is 5 beats/min. If the variance within a genetically identical line of individuals (clones) is 4.5 beats/min, what is the heritablity of wing beat frequency?
