You have recently discovered that a particular
gene is commonly altered in breast tumours.
The gene contains 3 exons, and a 20 base pair
deletion at the start of exon 2 is often observed
in tumours.
B.
Describe the outcomes you would expect from this test if there was a deletion in one
allele, and what you would expect if there was a deletion in
both alleles.
[2 marks]
C. Explain how your test may be affected by the presence
of contaminating genomic DNA
in your PCR.
