A bacterial cell acquires a mutation in the tryptophanyl-tRNA
synthetase gene. The mutant enzyme has weaker affinity for
tryptophan and lower kcat in the two-step aminoacylation reaction.
What is the effect of this mutation on regulation of the Trp
operon? Explain fully in terms of the attenuation mechanism. Be
sure to write about what happens when the Trp concentration is low,
and also about what happens when the Trp concentration is high.
