Suppose an enzyme only shows activity when the side chain -COOH
group of a glutamic acid in the active site is protonated. It is
known that the pKa of the side chain -COOH group is 3.93.
Answer the following questions:
a) Is the enzyme more active at pH 3 or 5? Please briefly
explain.
b) What % of the enzyme molecules is active at pH = 5.4?
c) At what pH will the enzyme show 75% of maximal activity?
