Question 2 A grade S355JR steel beam is required to support the loads as shown 3/6 below. Lateral support to the compression flange will be provided at the posi point loads, and the supports may be considered to be restrained against torsion. Initial calculations have shown that A 533 x 210 x 82 l-section is adequate. Ignoring the self- weight of the beam. Do the following: (30) 2.1 Draw the shear force and bending moment diagrams showing all critical values. (7) 2.2 Check shear and flexure on the critical segment B-C. (18) 2.3 Determine the magnitude of the maximum ultimate point load that could be placed on the beam directly above support D if the length of stiff bearing at the support is 100 mm.
