Problem 1 (5 points) An arterial street carries three traffic lanes in each direction. The city engineer considers two alternative scenarios: 1. Only passenger cars are allowed on this street, 2. Two lanes are used by passenger cars and one lane is reserved for city buses (HOV lane). Estimate the street capacity in one direction for the two scenarios. Use the lane capacities for vehicles as provided in the example given in class. Assume the following average vehicle occupancies: 1.3 people per car and 38 passengers per bus.
