The 410 UB 53.7 compression member of Grade 300 steel as shown in Table 5 and Figure 5, is simply (pin) supported about both principal axes at each end. The column has a central brace which prevents lateral deflections in the minor principal plane. Given, Lex= 10.0 m, and Ley = 5.0 m. The column is subjected to following axial loads: Dead load, G = 140 KN Live load, Q = 190 KN Check the adequacy of the compression member for the design axial compressive load.
