Ok, this assignment asks that you evaluate different types of temporary excavation support systems only during the construction period. We are not asking that you perform any engineering calculations for evaluating designs. For the following soil and water conditions, please comment on any type of excavation support design you feel would be most effective, including but not limited to the following: • Open excavation sloping • H-pile and wood lagging without tiebacks • H-pile and wood lagging with tiebacks Sheet Pile walls • H-pile walls with internal steel bracing, angled or horizontal bracing Diaphragm walls • Drilled pier retaining structures with or without tiebacks • Soil grouting • Pin piles • Soil nailing • Caisson sinking method • Other methods you may know of If you are not familiar with any of the above methods, please research them on the Internet. Ground Conditions: 1. Excavation will be 50 feet deep, and 50 feet by 100 feet in plan dimension. 2. The soil profile consists of 10 feet of soft clay over dense sand to a depth of 60 feet over hard bedrock. 3. Groundwater is found at a depth of 45 feet. 4. The excavation is surrounded by city streets
