Unit 8 Assignment 1 of 4 2021-2022 Task 1 a) A theodolite is a surveying instrument for measuring angles. A surveyor, standing on horizontal ground, some distance from a vertical tower, sets up a theodolite so that the height of the instrument is 1.4m from the ground. The surveyor notes that the angle of elevation to the top of the tower is 22°. The surveyor moves 120 m closer to the tower and finds the angle of elevation to the top of the tower is now 44°. (0) Draw a sketch of the scenario, labelling distances and angles accordingly. (ii) Find the height of the tower. b) A surveyor, standing some distance from a vertical tower, sets up a theodolite on inclined ground, at a height of 1.5m from the ground. The ground is inclined at 10° to the horizontal. The surveyor notes that the angle of elevation, with respect to the horizontal, to the top of the tower is 30°. The surveyor moves up the incline by 20m, in the direction of the tower and finds the external angle of elevation, again with respect to the horizontal, to the top of the tower is 135°. The scenario is depicted in the diagram below. Find the height of the tower. NB Ensure that any diagrams used are correctly labelled. 135° 1.5m 30° 1.5m 10° 20m "
