A 1km road off the R30 in Glen, Free State facilitates access to the Glen agricultural college, which plays an important role in the province’s agricultural sector. The road was initially paved with asphalt 25 years ago and carries the greatest volume of traffic in the community, due to outside travellers. The road needs upgrading due severe distresses in the surface and pavement structure.
The Department of Transport (Free State) is proposing a full rehabilitation for the road, which includes re-design and construction. The project must be as labour intensive as possible to alleviate unemployment within the community.
DCM2601 PROJECT
The Department of Transport (Free State) has approached your engineering company as a project engineer to design the project. As the Project Engineer in charge, your job is to propose 2 design options (with basic road layer-works design option drawings) and considerations for the chosen design, present it to the Client using MS Powerpoint in no more than 5 slides, two of the presentation slides should speak to labour intensive activities identified, then develop the full tender document for the chosen option only (include considerations for the chosen design) that will be advertised for tender bids, including the Scope of Work, WBS, Bill of Quantities with an initial price quotation and Project specific Specifications.
