An elementary form of water turbine consists of a rotor, into
which water enters along its vertical axis and is discharged
through five 30 mm diameter nozzles at the end of radial tubes in
the horizontal plane. The nozzles are at a radial distance of 480
mm from the axis, and are directed tangentially. The flow rate
through each nozzle is 8 L/s, and the turbine rotates at 120 RPM.
Calculate the torque on the turbine due to the water flow, and the
power transmitted.
