Superheated steam at an average temperature 200π‘œπ‘œπΆπΆ is
transported through a steel pipe οΏ½π‘˜π‘˜ = 50 π‘Šπ‘Š π‘šπ‘š βˆ™ 𝐾𝐾, π·π·π‘œπ‘œ = 8
𝑐𝑐𝑐𝑐,𝐷𝐷𝑖𝑖 = 6 𝑐𝑐𝑐𝑐, π‘Žπ‘Žπ‘Žπ‘Žπ‘Žπ‘Ž 𝐿𝐿 = 20 π‘šπ‘šοΏ½. The pipe is insulated with
a 4-cm thick layer of gypsum plaster (π‘˜π‘˜ = 0.5 π‘Šπ‘Š/π‘šπ‘š βˆ™ 𝐾𝐾). The
insulated pipe is placed horizontally inside a warehouse where the
average air temperature is 10π‘œπ‘œπΆπΆ. The steam and air heat transfer
coefficients are estimated to be 800 π‘Žπ‘Žπ‘Žπ‘Žπ‘Žπ‘Ž 200 π‘Šπ‘Š/π‘šπ‘š2 βˆ™ 𝐾𝐾,
respectively. Calculate: (a) The daily rate of heat transfer
from the superheated steam, and (b) The temperature on the outside
surface of the gypsum plaster insulation
