Q1. (a) Referring to Figure Q1a, a magnetic core consists of two parts, A and B with two air gaps each of 2 mm width between the parts. The core is made of iron with a cross-section area of 4 cm x 4 cm. The relative permeability of part A and part B are 700 and 1100 respectively (r = 700 and r, 1100). The iron core is wound with a coil of 2000 turns and magnetized by an excitation current of 600 mA flowing through the coil. Determine = (1) the reluctance of Part A; (ii) the reluctance of Part B; (iii) the reluctance of the two air gaps; (iv) the total reluctance of the complete magnetic circuit; (v) the magnetomotive force (Fm); (vi) the total flux; and (vii) the flux density. 18 cm Part A 10 cz Part B a Figure Ola (b) Consider the magnetic circuit shown in Figure Q1b, it is given that the coil has 1000 turns and the core is made of cast iron with a cross- sectional area of 5 cm². The relative permeability of cast iron is 2000. Neglecting any fringing effect, if the magnetic flux density B in the air- gap is 0.3T, determine (i) the magnetic flux d inside the core; and (ii) the amount of current I passing through the coil.
