1. Formulate an algebraic model for the problem.
2. Use LINGO to solve this model.
3. State the solution in words.
Kent Shefield wants to go on a diet. His doctor told him he could only eat 3 types of dishes: salads, fruits, and cereal/nuts. Kent was also told he should eat no more than 1kg of food altogether per day. Given that these foods provide a good variety of different nutrients, Kent's doctor told him he should only be concerned about the requirements for 3 components: protein, carbohydrates, and fat. The requirement table, costs per 100g, and quantity of these components in each food category are summarized below. Protein (g) Carbs (g) Fat (g) Dish type Salads Cost per 100g per 100g per 100g per 100g $1.40 3 1.0 1.0 Fruits $1.05 5 1.8 1.5 Cereal/Nuts $0.85 16 12.0 9.0 Requirements 40 (minimum) 90 (maximum) 25 (maximum) In addition to the above requirements, Kent must also consume a minimum amount of 150g of salads, 150g of fruits, and 100g of cereal/nuts per day due to important nutri- ents that can only be found in these food categories.Formulate a model to help Kent in determining the choice of food that meet all these constraints and at a minimum cost.
