Discuss the differences in unemployment rates by gender,
age, educational attainment, and so forth, and provide possible
explanation for the variations in unemployment over time and the
variation in unemployment by age, gender, educational attainment,
and race
In reviewing the website for U.S Bureau Labor Statistics, I came
across a group of people for unemployment. Between the ages of 16
and 55, in the year 2021, there was a high rate of unemployed
people and in 2022, the rate slightly went down but was not much of
a difference. In comparison with men and women, men had the highest
rate for unemployment for 2021. In the year of 2021, Covid hit the
states pretty hard and cause a lot of people to be furloughed or
sent to work from home. Although women had a lower rate for
unemployment, the rate is still high. For the year 2022, the
employment rates have become lower which is good for the economy.
Throughout the states, there have been more job openings and after
Covid, things have become better, and people are not able to
work.
Married couples have the lowest rate for unemployment due to
helping each other. Not being single and having two incomes always
helps. If one loses their job, the spouse usually helps with the
finances until the unemployed spouse finds a job. In February of
2021, my husband was furloughed and was unemployed for 3 months.
During the pandemic it became harder for him to get interviews but
took a while to get a job. He is an IT guy and was worried. Now he
has a stable job. At first no interviews were done due to social
distancing but virtual interviews became available. I was the only
income at the time but got us by. Now we are in a good place and
hoping no disasters happen again.
