You have recently joined an Engineering company. Your first assignment is to design a simple, single-stage voltage amplifier based on one bipolar junction transistor with current gain of 100 and input resistance of 27 k and supplied from a 9 V DC source. The amplifier should be capacitively coupled to both the signal source and the load. (a) Design the single-stage amplifier so that an input signal with a maximum amplitude of 12mVpp is amplified without distortion and using efficiently the available supply voltage range. The topology and component values are entirely your decision but should be justified briefly (<30 words). [30%] (b) What is the power dissipation in the transistor, as a percentage of total power dissipation? [10%] (c) Choose from the E12 series suitable values for the decoupling capacitors, so that signals down to 16Hz can be amplified without significant distortion. Briefly justify your reasoning (<30 words). [20%] (d) You will have chosen a circuit topology (CB, CC, CE, degenerated CE). Justify your choice in the context of the desired circuit operation. Briefly argue why each of the other topologies would have not been suitable (or as suitable) for the purpose (<100 words). [20%] (e) Implement your design by choosing the nearest preferred values for the various resistors from the E6 series. Verify that your updated design still meets the performance specification from point (a). [20%]
