2 INS Part Question 1, understanding of Principles of the gyroscope and accelerometer [20 marks] There are two sub-questions as follows: (a) Explain the basic principles of RLG, open-loop IFOG and closed-loop IFOG and illustrate some practical scenarios in which these two gyroscopes are used for. [12 marks] (b) Please describe how to select the suitable accelerometer (from the performance specification prospective) for the navigation/control applications. [8 marks] The solution report for Question is limited to no more than paper 4 pages. Question 2, Understanding of INS algorithm [30 marks] There are two sub-questions as follows: (a) Briefly describe the basic software architecture of a local NED navigation algorithm and explain functions of each component/module in this architecture. [15 marks] (b) Draw the flow chart to describe how to use quaternion to update the attitude from the data obtained from IMU. [15 marks] The solution report for Question is limited to no more than paper 4 pages.
