Question 2 (8 + 4 + 9 + 5 + 5 = 31 marks) (a) You need to prepare 2.5 L of an isotonic intravenous (IV) solution of 0.2% w/w of sodium chloride. Anhydrous glucose (SCE = 0.18). Determine the mass of anhydrous glucose need to prepare this solution. (b) What will be the molar concentration of anhydrous glucose (M = 180.16 g/mol) in the IV solution in part = (a) of this question. (c) You have a 0.1 M solution of sodium chloride and a 0.1 M solution of glucose. From your knowledge of colligative properties, indicate which solution would have: (i) the highest osmotic pressure, (ii) the lowest boiling point, and (iii) the highest melting point. Give a brief explanation to support your answer. (d) Briefly explain why eye and nose drop medications are generally formulated as isotonic solutions. (e) What do you think would happen to the overall size of a sample of blood cells if they were placed into a beaker containing aqueous 0.1 M sodium chloride. Give a brief explanation to support you answer.
