Any carbon in the final molecule must derive from either toluene or a molecule containing 3 carbons or fewer that can be purchased at Sigma Aldrich. Any other reagent may be used (catalysts, acids, bases, solvents, etc.) that do not contribute carbons into the final structure. Group #1 - Small molecules Hoe vino Wohnwalt You do not have reinvent the wheel if two molecules look similar. Use the lessons learned from one synthesis and apply it to others. Each synthesis should require about 5-8 steps (although a couple could be done in 2-3 steps). If your approach requires 10 or more, there's probably a better way, but it might still be valid.
