In the production of ammonia (N2 + 3H2 → 2NH3), nitrogen and
hydrogen are fed in stoichiometric proportion. The nitrogen feed
contains 0.28% argon, which needs to be purged. The process is
designed such that there is less than 0.25% of argon in the
reactor. The reactor product is fed into a condenser where ammonia
is separated from the unreacted hydrogen and nitrogen, which are
recycled back to the reactor feed. The condenser is operating
perfectly efficient. Calculate the amount of nitrogen and hydrogen
that goes into the reactor per 200 kg of hydrogen fed into the
process. Assume the single pass conversion of nitrogen is
10%.
