QUESTION ONE Figure Q1 shows a roof truss whose elements are made from Rectangular Hollow Section 150 x 100 x 5. The roof sheeting material and the battens are simply supported on purlins which, in tum, are attached to the joints at the top chord of the truss. Thus, the uniformly distributed loading on the roof is transmitted by the purlin as concentrated loads to the truss joints. The modulus of elasticity of the material for the truss is 200 x 10³ MPa. Use the roof truss shown Figure Q1 below to answer the following questions (23 Marks) a. b. Determine the maximum axial stress in the truss. Determine the Euler Load for the element of the truss with maximum compressive force. Take k as 0.75 (5 Marks) C. How will the element with maximum compression force fail?
