Two steam turbines arrangement used to produce power is shown in the figure. Steam flows first through turbine 1 before it passes through heat exchanger and finally enter the second turbine 2. Air as an ideal gas flow separately through the heat exchanger at a rate of 1500 kg/min. Data for the two flow streams are shown on the figure. Heat transfer to the surroundings can be neglected, as can all kinetic and potential energy effects. Determine: (a) The mass flowrate of the steam at inlet 1 in kg/s. (b) The temperature of the steam at state 3 (T3) in K. (c) The magnitude of heat transfer between the steam and air in kW. (d) The power output of the second turbine, in kW, at steady state. Wn=10 000 kW 01- Steam in 1 Ti = 600°C p1 = 20 bar T2 = 400°C p2 = 10 bar 2 T6 =1200 K p5 = 1.35 bar T3 =? p3 = 10 bar 3 www MM 6 5 W12= ? T4 =240°C p4 =1 bar 4 T5 = 1500 K p5 = 1.35 bar m = 1500 kg/min
