Question A Your manager has asked you to conduct an analysis for a client's projects and evaluate their potential, which will be used in further feasibility studies. You know the client is concerned about the energy trilemma: security, sustainability, affordability, and so you would need to take this into account in any recommendations you make. The client wants to build a new factory which has a heavy three phase electrical load with a poor power factor. The owner wants to use an isolated network to provide power to this by means of a diesel generator and is suggesting the arrangement shown in Figure 1 below and would like to consider using two transformers and a line which are already in place. 1) Your line manager would like you to investigate what the terminal voltage of the generator would need to be if the electrical load voltage is to be maintained at 30kV and the suggested arrangement is adopted. [20 Marks] 2) What could be an alternative solution the client could adopt to supply this load, in terms of generating asset(s) to be used and interconnections? Justify your answer and highlight benefits and potential drawbacks of the solution proposed.
