When is "Protein" Not Protein Protein is of more interest today than ever. Athletes, seniors, and weight management individuals are always looking for the best source to suit their needs. Peter Ballerstedt in this video (When is "Protein" Not Protein) does an excellent job of presenting the differences between crude vs. true protein using industry standards. Important viewing for vegans, carnivores, and everyone in-between. While I have tried to stay with short videos, there was no helping for this one which is 58 minutes. It will be helpful to review the chapter before watching the video. It will help to understand the different way protein quality is defined. If you want to go for extra credit on this project, watch the video Eating less meat won't save the planet, here's why. This video addresses the concerns that are being promoted regarding animals on the planet. Early this year I heard that people were being discouraged from owning pets due to their harm to the planet. I think it is always interesting to learn both sides of an issue. This video is only about 12 minutes long and attempts to refute the claims. Template 1. Introduction - Think about your relationship with protein and why you make the selections you do. Is it for muscle building, weight management, health, etc.? 2. Peter basically covers the first part of the chapter regarding protein quality and the ways we classify it. When you review the video, you may find it helpful to follow the outline he presents at the beginning of his talk. He covers six main areas. Make sure these are addressed in the paper. That may help with organization. 3. Consider what he presents and contrast it with what you may have heard before. I think many of us when looking at protein on a food label are not thinking about crude protein. We assume it is true protein that we can use. 4. If you viewed the second video, here is a good place to merge information from both. Peter's presentation mentions the topics in the second video however it is more clear that video. Food waste is an important concern. Since I grew up with parents that lived through the Depression and WWII, I have always been conscious of food waste and try to minimize as best I can. 5. Concluding remarks should focus what you learned. What is the one or two items that you will remember afterwards? Will this information influence how you read the labels and change the amount of protein you consume? This review will be at least one page and may go longer should you include the extra video.
