Q4. (30 pts) Fig.4 shows a 3x3 pile group foundation to support a tower structure. It consists of 3 middle piles and 3 battered (inclined) piles on either side. The battered piles are inclined at 10 deg with vertical. Groundwater is at ground level. Pile cap is at ground level. Piles are HP 12x84 (Table 1). The bottom of piles is at 20 m below ground level. E = 200 GPa. Pile spacing S= 1.5m. (a) Assuming driven piles, estimate the ultimate geotechnical axial compressive load capacity of one of the battered piles. (ignore any interaction between piles in the group). (b) Estimate the ultimate geotechnical axial tensile (uplift) load capacity of one of the battered piles. Ground level.
