(30 marks) Assuming a giant's star envelope is fully convective and that the convection speed is of the order of the average sound speed of the star, determine the timescale for convection, or, in other words the typical time taken by the star to transport out its energy by convection. Compare this timescale with the radiative timescale. What do you notice? [Note that you need a data here which I am not providing you with - take educated guesses. Do not get complicated, this is a simple exercise similar to the question: if rabbit travels at 10 km/h and needs to cover 10 km, how long does rabbit take?]
