Throughout the semester we have talked about the importance of wetlands and a functional landscape as it relates to water storage, water quality, and wildlife/fisheries habitat. a) Briefly discuss the relationship (think roles and outcomes) between salmon, beaver activity (and their analogs [brush weirs/rock drop structures]), forest density, flood plains, erosion/channel incision, and climate cycles. b) How might landscape-scale restoration and stewardship help secure water through climate variability? c) How might salmon be an ideal indicator for sustainable water management, and how do they connect the entire landscape? If you aren't certain, you might review some of the articles provided on blackboard for further information. Water quality is an important component of environmental quality. Briefly explain what biocriteria is, and what can be learned from the presence of certain aquatic species (provide an example)? Choosing an example of either cyanobacteria (e.g., harmful algal blooms) or water-related pathogens (select one) how might it respond to a warmer climate? Provide an example of what exposure to cyanobacteria or the selected pathogen cause to humans or other organisms?
