1. The peninsula currently separates the ocean (on the
northeast side of the peninsula) from a bay (on the southwest side
of the peninsula). If the longshore current continues to shape the
peninsula by transporting sand, the peninsula could eventually
become a different landform, and as a result, the bay could become
a body of water with a different name. Describe the process that
might happen and name the two new landforms that would result
from this process (that is, what would the peninsula become and
what would the bay become).
2. Drakes Estero (latitude 38 degrees north) shown in the
map below (Contour interval: 40 feet), is an example of a ria
coast.
Is this an emerged or submerged shoreline?
Describe the process by which it was formed: what force
originally shaped the landscape, and then what happened to either
submerge or emerge it?
How do we know that Drakes Estero is not a fjord?
Provide two reasons, based on the information available in the
map or information provided in the previous question, that can help
us eliminate the possibility that it is a fjord.
