Alcohol S, has the molecular formula C5H12O. Reaction of S with hot acidified potassium permanganate produces compound T, C5H1002. Dehydration of S produces an alkene U, C5H10. Strong oxidation of U, forms 2-methylpropanoic acid as one of the products. (a) Draw the structures of S, T and U. [3] (b) Write the equation when 2-methylpropanoic acid reacts with NaHCO3. State the observation of the reaction. [3]
