Experiment 1: Crystallisation of KNO3 - thermodynamics vs kinetics In this experiment, a beaker with a pre-weighed (-15 g) of potassium nitrate solid (KNO:) will be mixed with 25 ml of water, at a temperature > 60°C. Figure 1 shows the solubility curve for potassium nitrate (KNO:) solution as a function of temperature, which tells us the maximum mass of KNO, that can be dissolved in 100 g water, as a function of temperature.
