TASK 1 • Design of the horizontal curve with all checks, sketch
• Extra widening • Design of the vertical curve, sketch • SSD and
OSD
An important Highway in Oman is passing through various types of
geographical terrains. Design all the elements of the road curve in
horizontal and vertical directions for the given data. Draw a
typical sketch with the details. Each student will be given
separate data based on the student number through BlackBoard. The
student has to design the curve elements based on Oman Highway
Design Standards, according to the specified conditions. Also
calculate the Stopping Sight Distance and Overtaking Sight Distance
for the given Speed Condition. Draw the sketch of Overtaking Zone.
(Assume other data suitably)
Task 1:
Last Digit of Student
Student number: X (For example if the Student
number is NU220581. Then last digit is 1. So X= 1)
Number of lanes on the Highway in one
direction: H
Maximum speed permitted
S kmph. Vertical curve at the end of the terrain
is G% downward gradient.
Student Number Ending
with:
(X)
Maximum Design Speed
(kmph)
S
Number of lanes
H
Width of one lane
LW

Downward gradient of
terrain (G)
