Suggested Format for Assignment 3 SEV301 T1 2022 1. Introduction You should provide an introduction to the proposal that outlines the background of the project, the purpose of the proposal (what it is submitted for?) and its scope (what does it cover?). 2. Design Parameters Similar to the previous proposals this should include a determination of the key design requirements for the sewer network. It should focus on determining the sewage flows and diurnal variations into the system for Crawley. You should use values that you determined previously in the water demand and adjust them accordingly. 3. Sewer Network Layout and Design This section should clearly present the layout for the collection network including all sizing and flow requirements, maintenance structures and emergency relief. You should design your system to have a 1 trunk, 4 mains and one lateral and a free fall outlet at the end of Jan Smuts Ave at a maximum depth of 2.5 m. You should also suggest materials for the construction of the sewer. Outline and justify any assumptions and/or decisions you make.
4. Design Competency This section should present and briefly discuss the simulation results in both tabular and graphical format for wastewater flow maximum and minimum velocities. You should present profiles showing ground level, structures, HGL and MaxHGL along submains and trunk. Water level elevations at the junctions of submains to the trunk should be checked for backwater and presented in the report. You should also detail the measures to be taken to tackle overflow and surcharge in any junction of the sewer network 5. References Provide a list of any references you have used in the report. List your references in alphabetical order, using Harvard or APA referencing format. References should be appropriately cited in the text and should include mainly technical reports, journal articles, reference books or textbooks. Be wary of data from the internet, try to ensure it is factual and not just marketing material 6. Appendices Your appendix should contain any information you feel are not necessary to be detailed in the full report, but are still highly relevant. You must also attach a copy of any files (e.g. SewerGEMs files) used/generated in the design of the sewer network.
Task After the completion of the design of the water treatment solution for Moorabool Water and the distribution network for the new development of Crawley, your manager has determined that there may be value in providing an unsolicited proposal for the development of a sewer collection system for Crawley to Moorabool Water. Your task then is to develop the proposal based on the information you have been given in previous assessment tasks. Your manager has suggested that the sewer network design should contain 1 trunk, 4 mains and 1 lateral to give full coverage to Crawley. Minimum and maximum depths of sewer obverts are 1.5 and 2.5 m respectively. The free fall outlet of the Crawley sewer system should be located at the southern end of Jan Smuts Avenue. After discussions with Moorabool Water they have indicated they may be interested in the proposal provided it meets the following requirements:
