A sea-side town wants to build a new pier to boost tourism. The proposed foundation design uses 40 cm diameter circular concrete piles which will be installed to 10 m below the seabed. Because of potential wildlife disturbance, bored piles will be used. The soil properties are known to be relatively uniform with depth. A sample of this soil is described as "yellowish brown very dense well-graded rounded SAND". You should assume the tidal range is small and does not affect the calculations. Calculate the axial capacity of one of the foundation piles. Justify how you selected relevant soil and pile parameters. TE BBS
