a) A 10 mm x 10 mm electronic component top surface has a maximum operating temperature of 75°C. To improve cooling, an array of 4 pure copper cylindrical pin fins is added to this surface to increase total surface area. Each fin is 1.5 mm in diameter and 20 mm long. The heat transfer coefficient with air cooling is 180 W/m²K, the air temperature is 20°C, and the thermal conductivity of copper is 385 W/mK. You can assume that the tips of the pin fins are in adiabatic condition and the electronic component dissipates heat through the top surface only. You may neglect radiative heat transfer. i) Determine the maximum power dissipation from the electronic component if no fins were used. ii) Determine the maximum power dissipation from the electronic component if the pin fins are used. iii) Determine the electronic component surface temperature when the electronic component is operating at the power of 3.5 W and the fins are used. iv) Derive and determine the efficiency of the pin fins.
