A steel tube 100 mm inside diameter and150 mm outside diameter
is to have a second tube of the same material 180 mm outside
diameter shrunk on it, the shrinkage allowance being such that the
radial pressure between the two tubes is to be 30 N/mm2. Take E=
200kN/m2 and ยต =0.25, calculate a) Hoop stresses at the inner
surface of outer tube. b) Increase in internal diameter of outer
tube c) Hoop stress at the outer surface of inner tube d) Reduction
in external diameter of inner tube.
