Design and Testing of
hardware:
Design the interfacing circuits with sensors, actuators and
other peripherals devices based on your PDS. Ensure to maintain the
record and include the possible modification done in improving your
circuit. Test the circuits to demonstrate effective functioning and
interfacing. On successful testing, assess the designed circuit
with practical values to evaluate its functionality. You are also
recommended to test the design under a range of operating
conditions (like temperature, mechanical stress, steady state,
transient etc.,) and conclude your findings about the functionality
of the circuit that you have designed.
In the process of developing software, you are strongly
suggested to prepare an algorithm or flow chart to show the task
handled by the software. You can choose any one high level language
like embedded C, Micropython etc., for developing software. At the
initial phase, develop programs using the given examples in the IDE
for each of the peripheral devices individually and test, debug
them in a simulation tool of your choice. Once all the peripherals
are tested individual you can integrate all the tested programs
into one single program which you could satisfy your project
objective. Once the simulation is completed, develop the prototype
and test them. While carrying out these activities, ensure that you
have appropriate screen shots of simulation, debugging process, and
snaps of hardware testing. Remember that, program should be
in a well-structured manner like using meaningful identifiers,
comments, sensible names for variables etc.,

Scenario: Consider you are technician EWA-Bahrain. Your manager requires you to design, develop, construct and commission an embedded system for conveyer belt control with variable speed DC motor. This system will be used for packaging unit as shown in the figure 1. proximity sensor product Conveyer belt pully DC motor Figure 1. Conveyer belt The concept block diagram is given below in figure 2. speed control source LCD display Controller ESD DC motor proximity sensor 0 Temperature sensor LED Figure 2: Concept block diagram The Project Design Specifications of the system is given below. Trainee number Project Design Specifications 20200741 A voltage source that varies between -2V to +2V is used to control speed of a DC motor. Appropriate signal conditioning is to be used. You need to drive a DC motor whose speed is proportional to the control voltage. You can fix minimum and maximum speed. The motor should stop for 7 Seconds if the proximity sensor is active. An emergency shut down push button is necessary to ensure safe operation. It will be installed in the workshop and proper isolation is to be given. An LED will glow when the input is above 1v. LM35 temperature sensor is used is used to stop the DC motor if the temperature is more than 30 degrees. You need to display the temperature using an LCD display
