Modern laser equipment has been used to measure the distance between two points. Each measurement value can be seen as an observation of a normally distributed variable X, with the real distance UX as expected value and standard deviation ox=2.87. After collecting n=18 independent measurements have calculated that the average value is X = 3016 A student finds the upper and lower bounds of a 90% confidence interval for the real distance ux. Upper = 3017.1 Lower = 3014.9 How many observations do we need to get the length of the confidence interval down to 1.0 meters?
