Sandy Neubaum is the Executive Director of the Student
Engagement Team in the College of Business. She has an amazing team
of talented professionals who love what they do. Those who are on
her team are compensated well with competitive salaries and
generous benefits. Additionally, they have autonomy for their
projects, classes, and responsibilities. Other than a weekly team
meeting, and individual meetings once per term, she has fully
trusted her team to meet the goals they set for themselves. Over
the years, the team has developed a family-type culture. Team
members bond together through working on cars, walking dogs, going
on hiking trips, or simply grabbing lunch. Sandy hosts several
parties to celebrate the graduating student workers, holidays, and
the end of the school year. They also have annual team retreats to
discuss the previous year, plan for the next, and also get to
reconnect with each other after surviving another year. These
social connections and gatherings have established a bond in the
team and a fun culture overall. Vaerine Bauder is Sandy’s admin and
right-hand, an indispensable part of her team. In 2018, she was
awarded the Outstanding Professional Faculty and Staff Award for
her efficiency, excellence, and impeccable character. She is one
who can be described as living her life to the fullest and has a
heart to constantly encourage others. Sandy ensures that she is in
a place where she can have a positive impact on the team and the
students her team serves. In our class this term, we discussed
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Provide the following information and
answer the following questions below in the form of an essay.
○What is the concept of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs theory?
1)How can it be applied to motivating employees?
2. What are the five basic needs as theorized by
Maslow?
Define each need from the bottom of the pyramid to the top
1)Using the narrative above about Sandy and Vaerine’s team,
highlight each need and how the needs change from one stage to
another.
2) It is important that you explain how Sandy has met each
specific need at each level and how it helps Vaerine stay
motivated.
3) There is one need that is not explicitly stated. Which one is
it and is it being met? Using Maslow’s theory, explain your answer
whether the unstated need is being met or not.
