QUESTION 1 [60 MARKS] Change is inevitable in a business
environment, and the impact of COVID-19 has introduced a strong
burning platform for change in many unforeseen areas with many
organisations and individuals that have struggled or have been
simply unable to cope with the pace of change they have
encountered. Organisations have been forced to do business
differently and, with most staff required to work remotely or from
home, business processes have had to change rapidly in order for
organisations to survive. Within this new environment, we need to
take the opportunity to develop “purpose-led” organisations that
have more meaning for those who engage with them. To complete this
project, you are required to select an organisation that you are
familiar with and the business environment in which it operates.
Analyse the business environment and answer the following
questions. Based on the analysis of the business environment and
trends of the selected organisation, develop a report document for
executives on the management of the business environment and
organisational change dynamics. The report should provide
sufficient reference to the organisational context and extensive
application of relevant theory. The report should focus on the
following areas: 1.1 Provide an introduction and organisational
background. (5 Marks) 1.2 In the context of your organisation,
provide a critical evaluation on the impact of task environment on
organisational change. (12 Marks) 1.3 The management of your
organisation is not clear on whether change follows organisational
culture or is it culture that follows change. Research and
critically analyse the relationship that exist between
organisational culture and change. Refer to the selected
organisation for relevant examples to substantiate your answer. (15
Marks) 1.4 Provide a critical analysis of how the organisation may
apply one popular model in managing planned change in response to
the impact of the task environment. (12 Marks) 1.5 To enlighten
your management on managing internal forces of change, refer to
recent trends in the organisation and discuss how change can be
stimulated by different internal sources on various levels. (8
Marks) 1.6 To be proactive and embrace change can occur by
stimulating a culture of innovation and creating a learning
organisation. Comment on whether your company is a learning
organisation or not and educate the executive team on how managers
can build and manage a learning organisation. (6 Marks) 1.7 Provide
a relevant conclusion: (2 marks) QUESTION 2 [40 MARKS] The
importance of leadership cannot be underestimated at any stage of
the change management. Leaders have a myriad of responsibilities on
change projects, all of which are critical to ensuring change
success. The real challenge is how to support successful change
leadership and drive organisations through change. In a time of
rapid change, it is often easy to try and quickly implement
changes, moving from one to the next, without ensuring that the
prior changes have been successfully implemented and taken hold
within the organisation. Effective change requires more than just
decisions at the executive level, it requires strong change
leadership to cascade planned changes down into the organisation
and embedding them into organisational processes. 2.1 Using the
same organisation selected in question one, critically discuss
whether leaders in your organisation can be considered as
Transformational Leaders. Consider relevant literature on
Transformational Leadership and incorporate examples from the
organisation to evaluate the relevance of Transformational
leadership in managing Transformational Change. (20 Marks) 2.2
Based on your experience and relevant theory, educate your change
management leaders on the strategic styles or approaches that may
be applied by both internal or external OD practitioners in
providing leadership during change management. Provide suitable
examples to substantiate the reasons for the application of these
approaches. (20 Marks)
