A hair care product was analyzed for propylene glycol
content. 14.2112 grams of the hair care product were diluted
to 50.00 mL with solvent in a Class A volumetric flask. 5.37
mL of this diluted product was placed in each of five 25.00 mL
Class A volumetric flasks. Successively larger amounts of
propylene glycol standard were added to each of the flasks except
the first flask. (The first flask contained only the sample
aliquot). Finally, each of the flasks was diluted to the
25.00 mL mark with solvent. Each of these flasks was then
analyzed for propylene glycol concentration, and the signal vs.
concentration data were submitted to linear regression analysis.
The resulting equation of the line was y = 2,095X + 2,153 ,
where the units for slope are in (mg/mL) -1, making
the X term concentration in units of mg/mL
What was the weight % propylene glycol concentration in
the original hair care product, before dilution?
